The Springdale Township Recreation, Parks and Trail Plan Goals and Projects
GOAL 1: Improve access to our surface water resources
PROJECT 1a: ACCESS AT MOORE/COUNTY LINE AND/OR DZUIBANEK/KURICK
Improve access to the Betsie River by creating an access point at Moore Road & County Line Road and or at Dzuibanek & Kurick roads. State land is present at both locations.
PROJECT 1b: UNIVERSAL ACCESSIBILITY AT HEALY LAKE STATE FOREST CAMPGROUND
Make Healy Lake universally accessible for all users; consider becoming a part of the Explore the Shores program.
PROJECT 1c: FISHING PLATFORM
Develop a fishing platform at Healy Lake for easier access to the water.
Goal 2: Improve clean drinking water access at the Healy Lake State Forest Campground
PROJECT 2a: ADD ELECTRICITY TO THE CAMPGROUND
Run power a line into the campground.
PROJECT 2b: ELIMINATE THE USE OF HAND PUMPS AT THE CAMPGROUND
Install a new electric water pump & well.
GOAL 3: Develop multi-use trails that are connected to a County wide trail system
PROJECT 3a: TOWNSHIP RAILROAD GRADE REUSE
Make the railroad grade a priority in developing the trail connections.
PROJECT 3b: COUNTY WIDE TRAIL SYSTEM COLLABORATION
Continue to work collaboratively in developing the County wide trail system.
GOAL 4: Plan for maintenance and funding of recreational facilities, programming, and future opportunities
PROJECT 4a: BUDGETING
Create a line item in the budget that funds recreation.
PROJECT 4b: SAVINGS
Create a savings mechanism to save funds for recreational purposes.
PROJECT 4c: SEEK FUNDING SOURCES
Seek out funding sources (grants, endowments) and actively pursue obtaining funding awards
PROJECT 4d: GRANT WRITING
Encourage community/board members to learn how to write grants.
